Stanford University Psychology Programs

Stanford University is a world-renown higher education and research institution that offers some of the best education programs of any university in the United States. The same holds true for the its psychology program. The psychology program at Stanford University is internationally and universally recognized as the one of the best, if not the best, in the world.

One of the key aspects to a successful psychology program is a successful faculty, and Stanford University has just that--a world class faculty made up of the best psychology educators, lecturers, researchers and clinical practicians the world has ever seen. More than ten faculty in the psychology program have been Fellows of the Academy of Arts and Sciences and several more were Fellows of the National Academy of Science.

The psychology program at Stanford is divided into five department areas: Affective Science, Cognitive, Developmental, Social and Neuroscience. Stanford offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology.

The undergraduate psychology program focuses on the study of human behavior with the intent of preparing students to pursue a graduate degree in psychology, or for careers in Education, Law, Business, Social work, Medicine and of course Psychology. Undergraduate psychology courses include introduction to psychology, introduction to statistical methods, origin of mental life, self theories, emotion regulation and dynamical models of mental processes, among others.

Graduate degree programs in psychology at Stanford are designed to prepare students for careers in research, education and clinical practice--but primarily research. Areas of graduate study include cognitive, developmental, affective science, neuroscience and social psychology. The graduate program does not offer programs in counseling, clinical, industrial, organization or para psychology--it is primarily dedicated to psychology research.
